Controversial Nigerian street-pop singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has accused his father of theft, financial exploitation and years of neglect, sparking widespread reactions online.
In a viral video, the singer alleged that his father took his shoes and clothes without consent and has been aggressively laying claim to his properties, despite offering no support during his upbringing.
Portable further claimed that his father had access to the phone numbers of his baby mamas, whom he allegedly contacted repeatedly to demand money. He controversially likened his father’s behaviour to that of the late singer Mohbad’s father, a comparison that has fueled online debate.
Expressing deep anger and disappointment, Portable said his father did not sponsor his education or support his music career, questioning his relevance in his life.
“My success came without him. I struggled alone before fame,” the singer said.
He also accused his father of cheating him financially after entrusting him with building projects, alleging that costs were deliberately inflated.
According to Portable, materials worth ₦300,000 were presented as ₦900,000, which he described as outright fraud.
“Anytime I have a police case, my dad never shows up for me. You didn’t send me to school. You are always wearing my shoes and clothes,” Portable said. “You can never inherit me. I won’t allow you to do to me what they did to Mohbad. Leave me alone and let me live my life. You scammed me.”
The allegations have triggered mixed reactions on social media, with some sympathising with the singer’s emotional outburst while others criticised him for publicly airing a family dispute.
Portable is known for his outspoken nature and frequent controversies, often attributing his turbulent behaviour to what he describes as a difficult and unsupported childhood.
